Anyone who has listened to Monty Python's skit entitled "The Cheese Shop" will have a vague understanding that cheese has many forms.
In fact, Python's skit merely mentions 44 different types of chesses (including one that never actually existed until after the skit when it was made in its honor - Venezuelan Beaver Cheese). The list of all cheeses runs into the hundreds and as varied are its taste and texture. From hard, dry cheeses like Parmesan, to wet crumbly ones like Feta, to runny ones like Camembert, there is a cheese to suit everyone and to go with any dish.
The origins of cheesemaking are uncertain, but it was well established in Roman times. Some historians state cheesemaking began with nomadic tribes from the Arab world.
